Orthotist
Orthotist work with patients that need extra support for their muscles, spines, or limbs. They design, make, and fit apparatuses made of plastic, wood, leather and metal that help stabilize, strengthen, or replace body parts. They also make and fit devices that help to align limbs that have grown in a crooked manner. Orthotist work closely with physicians. Physicians may give a patient a prescription for an orthotic device.  They may also consult with Orthotist to design a needed device.  Orthotist often use computers to design their apparatuses.
Average Salary: $25,000-$40,000
Educational Requirements:
Students should take challenging science, math, and English courses in high school. Some colleges offer bachelor degrees in orthotic programs. These programs include courses in anatomy, mathematics, mechanical drawing, and the use of materials used in the making of devices.
