Duties and Responsibilities

Sonographers work with equipment that directs high frequency sound waves into the body tissues that make images of internal organs, diseased masses, and fetuses. The images are then used by physicians to treat the patients. Some sonographers specialize in certain areas of the body, like the heart, brain, and the pelvis. The responsibilities include on checking the patient’s medical history, explain the procedures, find the best positions to make images and operate photography and printout the equipment. Most of them work in hospitals.

Salary: $24,000-$38,000

Education:

Students should take challenging courses in math, science, and English when they are in high school. The training programs are offered at either hospitals or some community colleges. They can be completed in one to four years; this depends on the prior work experience. The sonographers must pass an annual certification test after completing the training.
