                                                             Bullying Should Be Stop!
How can children feel safe everyday they go to school if there being tormented to the point where they feel helpless? No kid should be scared to go to school just because they are being bullied. Thirty percent of kids in grade 6-10 are involved in moderate or frequent bullying as bullies or victims. The purpose of this is to inform the consequences of bullying, why we should stop bullying, and what bullying causes.
Some consequences are that over the years the kids who get bullied get low self-esteem and social withdrawal. It also can lead to them using drugs and alcohol finally it can lead to them committing suicide. According to the book of “Bullying “written by Louri S Friedman states that this kid named Carl was being bullied relentlessly. He had started secondary school and had high hopes. This tragedy first started because kids were pushing him calling him names like faggot, nerd, and stupid. The parents of Carl knew something was wrong with him since he was acting different around the house. Carl’s parents acted right away his mom called the school to tell them what was happening but they told her that this was how kids were playing now in days and that Carl would get over it soon. But the bullying wouldn’t stop everyday day Carl was suffering the same things of getting push around and being called names. He couldn’t take it anymore so he thought the best choice was to end his own life.
Bullying has been increases over the years and it has gone viral. People don’t only people in person they also use social networks. People have used the advances in technology to harass people. In 2010 this young boy name Tyler Clementi was being cyber bullied people online will insult him every day he decided that he had enough so he jumped off the George Washington Bridge and ended his life. We can stop this by teaching kids to respect others and to take a stand against bullying.
Bullying can lead to many tragedies. For example according to the American Medical Association 3.7 million youths engage in bullying. Studies have shown that 15 out of 25 students in the United States get bullied. For example the story of Ryan Patrick Halligan It was during the fifth grade that we first began to encounter the bullying problem. A certain kid and his friends picked up on Ryan’s academic weaknesses and his poor physical coordination. But since he was not being physically bullied by these boys, only by words, his parents advised him to ignore them. They also took him to therapy classes to get his self-esteem up. By the end of fifth grade he seemed fine. The bullying problem started again his first middle school year, but his parents didn’t have a big concern of this problem. They believed that this was just kids being kids, a part of growing up that encountering mean kids in middle school was just inevitable. The bullying became worse for Ryan in 7th grade. Later in the 7th grade he got in a fight we the same bully from 5th grade. After this fight Ryan stop being bullied for a while. A few days later he and the bully became friends Ryan shared a secret with his friend it was a secret that made Ryan look gay his so called “friend” went around and told the whole school. Since Ryan was in vacations he tried flirting with the most popular girl in school so they wouldn’t think he was gay, she made him believed they were together and the first day of school Ryan went up to her and that was when she told him that it was just a joke and he was a big loser. After this Ryan felt rejected in school no one would talk to him and he just kept receiving horrible messages so Ryan figured it was best for him to end his life.
I know kids who bully say “were just fooling around” or that “they know it’s just a joke”, and “That this will make them stronger”. Bullies may say all of this but bullying is no game.  Bullying is a constant threat to the security of children. Children in school and everywhere should be safe. It’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt.
Bullying is wrong. It is never okay. It never makes you look good. You should always be respectful towards everyone. This is an issue that’s been costing many lives of innocent children all around the world. Everyone should help stop bullying this is no game. As students we can change this.
